So as most of you probably already know, last week the U.S Supreme court ruled that Same Sex marriage is legal in all 50 states...
And alot of us couldn't be happier! Marriage is now legal for EVERYONE!
Now, that being said there's still been alot of controversy surrounding it, mostly from the super religious. My Facebook feed was a miasma of rainbows but also scripture and bible verses. Alot of people, including those I am related to still do not support the SCOTUS ruling, citing that it goes against their beliefs and morals, which therefore is a sin....
I say that's Bullshit!
First, a little about my personal background: I was baptized as a Catholic, we were Christmas and Easter Catholics, I have personally never read the entire bible, but I have gone to church on occasion. I grew up in a part of San Diego known for its very high Gay population and it wasn't until my teens that I even knew that a close uncle that lived with us was Gay, it wasn't talked about out loud...EVER. But no one in my family seemed to care. My Catholic background wasn't impressed upon me as the Gospel, church was something we HAD to do, and I really didn't enjoy it all.
I grew up seeing evidence of the LGBTQ community everyday. I just knew people were different, men and women some times want to be with another man or woman, or that some men dress and live as women, women as men. My mother and father never had to explain anything to me, or tell me how gay sex worked....I never wondered, I accepted it as fact because of the world around me. These people were IN THE WORLD, so to me they had a right to be there and to do what they wanted. It never seemed wrong or sinful to me.
Which is why I don't understand all this hoopla about "saving our children"...what are you saving them from? You don't want them teaching gay sex in school? Um, They didn't really teach us "sex" in school. They taught us the biological formula that creates babies, that when a penis goes into a vagina it can make a baby. They didn't show us HOW it was done, walk us through sex step by step! It was: Here is how the female body works, this is how the male body works, and when those two come together they make a baby. What would they have to add for gay children?! Other than, "Hey sometimes people like to be with the same sex, its normal, they can't make babies."

If your child isn't already gay, they are just going to shrug and go "Okay this doesn't apply to me"
You can't catch GAY! I don't understand how, as a "good parent" in 2015...you are going to keep your child from REAL LIFE. Homosexuals and Transpersons EXIST IN THE WORLD. They are numerous and here to stay and part of everyday life. How are you gonna keep your kid in a "Gay Isn't Real" bubble? Are you intentionally going to teach your children to hate people because of who they love? Listen to how that last sentence sounded...its like teaching someone to hate because of the color of their skin (which is still sadly going on today). I mean, just a short while ago we weren't alllowed to marry outside our race and the majority thought that was wrong, until people got together and said that shouldn't matter! Gay or Trans isn't something that you just DECIDE to be, it is not a choice! And I thank my lucky stars that my parents didn't influence my sister and I either way, they taught us about what they could and let us come to our own conclusions about the world. And I am proud to say that I have an openly gay Sister! No one taught her about lesbians, she just IS one and I always knew....growing up we shared a room: my side was all boybands, male lead singers and hot WWF Wrestlers, her side of the room was Xena, Warrior Princess, Lara Croft and WNBA players. When she came out, I wasn't surprised in the least and it didn't change the way our family felt about her. I also have a dear younger cousin who is going through different struggles as a Transwoman, while I admit that I didn't see that being a possibility when she was growing up as male, once I found out, it took a bit of mental adjustment to stop using male pronouns and call her by her new name, I still make mistakes! And that's okay because she knows that I accept her for who she is and that I refuse to judge the way she lives her life...Sadly, her father is still having a hard time with it. For him its a rather unique situation, it's perfectly acceptable for him to have a gay son but not a T-daughter, he doesn't want his other son from his current marriage "to be influenced" by her lifestyle, and THAT I just don't understand. Transpeople unfortunately still have a long way to go acceptance wise but I stand beside them as a representative of the straight community that just doesn't give a fuck as long as you are you and you are happy with you. And I will keep fighting with you! I will always be one of your LOUDEST AND PROUDEST advocates!
I know enough about The Bible to know that its main message is "LOVE OTHERS NO MATTER WHAT"...alot of you definitely don't follow that. You use your faith to hate, belittle, and mould GOD's word to fit your own agenda and I am pretty sure He didn't have that in mind. Which is why as an adult, I have chosen a faith that doesn't harm or discriminate against anyone...Universalism. What the fuck is that exactly? Well, I believe that the Universe will unfold as it should....that whatever you put out into the Universe comes back to you, I believe in Karma, I believe in Love (in all forms), I believe in acceptance of what I cannot change, I believe in Humanity.
Bottom Line, I fully support EQUALITY for all people, period. I support the SCOTUS ruling because everyone has a human right to be with whomever they choose to love and you can't help who you love. It makes me happy that because of this historic decision, my family and friends are free to love and marry whomever they choose and reap the financial, legal, and medical benefits their union will provide.
And if you don't like it...GO FUCK YOURSELF...
THEY'RE HERE, THEY'RE QUEER AND THEY ARE FABULOUS!
